10am-2pm

Make Town, 32 Vyner Street, London, E2 9DQ

This is a 4-hour class held at Make Town, a creative textiles workspace in the heart of East London. Here I’ll be sharing the techniques and processes that I use in my own work every day, and guiding you through the process of weaving your own tapestry, from start to finish.

This class is suitable for both beginners and experienced weavers.

You’ll learn how to-

- Structure your weaving, balancing warp and weft

- Translate a design on paper into weaving, and construct geometric shapes

- Create texture with soumak and rya knotting

- Take your weaving off the loom, finish and display it.

Before the class my team will be in touch via email with all the information you need. During the class you’ll plan your design, choose your colour scheme and begin transforming your design into woven tapestry.

We work with a variety of yarns and fibres, discussing the different properties and applications of each.

We’ll also cover general principles for the structure and construction of tapestry weaving and you will be shown how to apply these in your work in the future.

There will be plenty of time for one-on-one teaching as well as opportunities for me to answer any weaving questions.

You will go home with your own frame loom, weaving tools, instruction booklet and a selection of wool from the Balfour & Co collection, as well as all the information you need to keep going with weaving!
